Lexi Phillips: America's Next International Journlist

Lexi Phillips is America’s next Katie Couric and will be on an international news station near you soon.

Lexi Phillips is a 15-year-old Baton Rouge native that attended the Louisiana Scholastic Press Association (LSPA) Summer Institute from June 5 through 11th at Louisiana State University.

Phillips goes to Episcopal High school and it an upcoming 10th grader. She chose to attend the camp to learn more about broadcast journalism and editing.

She found broadcast journalism in a funny way saying how she had to do a career project in the 7th grade and her teacher would not let her do acting since it was not a “probable” career. Phillips did some research and found broadcast so she could still be on camera just in a different way.

For her more specific broadcast future goals Phillips wants to become an international reporter. “I found international reporting when I thought about attending Columbia, and my mom saw it under one of the major so I did some more research on it” says Phillips

As a college option she said she did not want to attended LSU but Syracuse University. Phillips say “I wanted to get out of Louisiana but not enter a big city all at once.”

Other than journalism she says she is involved in theater. Phillips has been in musicals such as “Hairspray”, “The Lion King”, and “Les Miserables”.
